Canada Clean Electricity Regulations Drive Renewable Growth
At the end of 2024, the Government of Canada finalized its new clean electricity regulations. Fossil fuels will be phased out from the grid, while opportunities for renewable energy such as solar and wind are being expanded.
There is already a story being told in the numbers, with Canada’s cumulative wind capacity growing from 1,846 megawatts (MW) in 2007 to over 15,000 MW in 2022. Solar capacity has also increased from 26 MW to more than 6,400 MW in the same period. The growth is not projected to decline either. The International Energy Agency expects another 25 GW of renewable capacity to be added nationwide starting from 2024 to 2030. The staggering growth is more than double that of 2018-2024.
Renewables are no longer a sacrifice for solving climate change; they are the most cost-effective electricity in most markets. Between 2010 and 2020, the cost of wind power fell by 56% globally, along with solar costs dropping 85%. Renewable technologies help in lowering household energy bills, driving business investments, and creating jobs. Clean Energy Canada estimates that 700,000 more energy jobs will be created by 2050, far outpacing those in the fossil fuel sector.
At Borrum Energy Solutions, we know that individuals and communities can benefit from the clean energy shift too. We offer self-assembled microgeneration wind turbines and tower systems that help homeowners, cottagers, and rural properties take control of their energy needs. Through generating clean energy on-site, anyone can reduce their reliance on the grid, avoiding rising energy costs but also playing an active role in Canada’s clean energy transition.
