Canada Joins Global Efforts in Offshore Wind
The $1-trillion global offshore wind energy market is a substantial opportunity in the creation of sustainable jobs and the improvement of Canada’s economy. With access to the longest coastlines in the world, Canada is well positioned and interested in joining this market.
Canada’s commitment was demonstrated by the announcement of Canada joining the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA). Canada joining GOWA provides access to global industry expertise which will help strengthen its offshore wind sector and complement existing initiatives. These initiatives include:
- Reviewing and modifying an act that created the legislative framework for offshore renewable energy in the Atlantic region.
- Establishing safety and environmental protection requirements for project developers.
- Assessing offshore wind in Atlantic Canada.
This national commitment is not only about the large-scale offshore projects, but also about empowering local communities through renewable energy. Borrum Energy Solutions designs microgeneration wind turbines and towers that empower rural dwellers to adopt clean energy while reducing diesel/propane costs and dependence on the electrical grid.
