Canada’s Clean Energy Future: Leading the Way

Canada is powering ahead in the global clean energy transition, setting benchmarks with its diverse and low-carbon electricity mix. In 2022, the country generated 639 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity, with an impressive 70% coming from renewable sources and 82% from non-greenhouse gas (non-GHG) emitting technologies.

As the third-largest producer of hydroelectricity worldwide, Canada derives 62% of its electricity from this reliable renewable resource. Nuclear power further strengthens Canada’s clean energy leadership, contributing 13% of the electricity mix, with the nation ranked second globally in uranium production and export.

Wind and solar photovoltaic energy are Canada’s fastest-growing electricity sources, while biofuels and electric vehicles (EVs) are reshaping the transportation sector. EV adoption is surging, registrations made up 10.8% of total vehicles in 2023, a stunning nine fold increase since 2017. Challenges remain - transportation emissions rose 4% between 2020 and 2022, underscoring the need for accelerated climate action.

At Borrum Energy Solutions, they’re proud to contribute to this transformation with their cutting-edge renewable technologies, which includes their Anorra microgeneration wind turbines. Together, they can help amplify Canada’s clean energy leadership, creating a sustainable future for all.
