Earth Day 2025 Sets Goals and Celebrates Accomplishments

Earth Day, hosted by EarthDay.org, has been held annually on April 22 since 1970 to raise awareness and show support for the environment. This year, on its 55th anniversary, Earth Day’s special theme is “Our Power, Our Planet”. This theme calls for initiatives that harness renewable energy to build a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous future for our planet.

EarthDay.org communicated that this year’s goal is to triple renewable energy generation by 2030. Their report stated that clean, affordable, and unlimited energy from renewable sources like solar, wind, and other technologies is “within reach”. It also stated that the importance of renewables transcends economic systems and politics.

To promote this goal, the organization celebrated multiple accomplishments for renewable energy in various countries:

In the U.S.A, 238,121 gigawatt hours of electricity came from solar, 8 times more than a decade ago in 2014. Also, Texas, known for oil production, accounted for 28% of U.S.A wind-powered electricity generation, demonstrating a major shift.

China became the leader in wind and solar generation, producing 357 gigawatts of solar and wind in 2024. This increase in production allowed them to surpass their goal of producing 1,200 gigawatts of electricity from renewables by 2030, 6 years early.

Canada’s renewable energy sector has been creating major opportunities for job growth. In 2020, according to a Clean Energy Canada report, the clean energy sector employed 430,500 people. This number is expected to continue growing, with a 50% projected growth rate by 2030.

Borrum Energy Solutions supports this goal and works to contribute towards it. The firm designs microgeneration wind turbines and towers that provide an opportunity for off-grid rural dwelling owners to reduce propane/diesel costs while lowering carbon emissions. On-grid dwelling owners would reduce their dependence on the electrical grid.
