Global Wind Energy Hits Record High

Wind energy has soared to unprecedented levels in 2024, marking a significant turning point in the global shift toward renewable energy. For the first time, wind power surpassed fossil fuel generation in Europe, showcasing the sector's rapid growth. Globally, wind energy generated a record 1,100 TWh in the first half of 2024, a remarkable 17% increase compared to the previous year.

Emerging economies, including Brazil, India, and the Philippines, are also making strides in wind energy adoption. This shift toward a more diverse and inclusive global wind market showcases the technology’s expanding reach beyond traditionally affluent countries, accelerating the clean energy transition worldwide. Offshore wind is especially booming, with a record number of offshore projects in the pipeline across the Asia-Pacific and North America, further establishing wind as a leading source of renewable energy.

Canada is stepping up its game in this renewable revolution, with its wind energy capacity expected to grow from 18.17 GW in 2024 to 27.75 GW by 2029. This growth, driven by an annual rate of 8.83%, reflects a strong commitment to clean energy initiatives. Key provinces like Ontario and Alberta are leading the charge, with new policies such as the Clean Energy Tax Credits law promoting investments in renewable projects. These efforts are crucial for maximizing Canada’s renewable energy potential and enhancing energy security.

As these advancements unfold, Borrum Energy Solutions remains committed to sustainability by focusing on microgeneration solutions, such as their Anorra wind turbines. By empowering dwelling owners to harness wind energy and reduce their dependency on the electrical grid, Borrum is helping pave the way toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
