Is Wind Power Right for Your Property? Pt 2

In the previous blog, we discussed essential factors to study when considering a wind turbine or wind power. However, there are still a few additional key points to keep in mind.

First, the location of your home or property is essential when determining if wind is suitable. If you are in a town or residential area, installation can be complicated due to local bylaws and zoning restrictions. That is why rural or off-grid properties are typically more ideal for home wind turbines.

Another factor is available space. While some assume a turbine can be installed on a roof, this is usually not recommended, especially for the Anorra-size turbines. Most systems require open space and proper setbacks, generally at least the tower height distance away from nearby obstacles and structures.

Wind turbines can also work well alongside other renewable energy sources. However, net metering projects are often financially beneficial when compared to diesel or propane replacement. Sites that already use solar and battery storage are much easier to integrate with wind.

Finally, it is essential to understand why you are choosing wind power. If your goal is to go off-grid where permitted, a wind turbine can be a strong first step. However, if you plan to stay grid-tied and offset part of your energy use, your approach to wind will likely look different.

In conclusion, a wind turbine can be an excellent option for those looking to go off-grid, reduce grid dependence, or explore renewable energy, but considering these factors will help ensure it is the right choice for your property.
