Nova Scotia Aims to "Green the Grid" with New Green Choice Program
Nova Scotia aims to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for its residents. It aims to achieve this through a new program called the Green Choice Program. The program will add clean energy to the grid, create new jobs, lower electricity costs, and decrease carbon emissions. “The Green Choice Program is the single largest addition of clean electricity and the single largest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Nova Scotia’s history. Our province has incredible onshore and offshore wind speeds. Now is the time to use it to our advantage.”, said Trevor Boudreau, Energy Minister.
The way in which they intend to implement the Green Choice Program, is through the power of wind energy. Nova Scotia plans to install six wind farms across the province, these wind farms will generate around 2,000 gigawatt hours of clean electricity per year by the end of 2028. Not only will they increase clean electricity in the electrical grid, but they will also provide good jobs, around 700 construction and 30 full-time. The farms will also be co-owned by one or more indigenous Mi’kmaw communities.
Borrum Energy Solutions designs microgeneration wind turbines and towers that can further aid Nova Scotia rural dwelling owners in generating clean renewable electricity, decreasing dependence on the electrical grid, reducing costs, and reducing climate change impacts.
