Canada Plans Sustainable Future with Clean Electricity Regulations
The federal government of Canada has created Clean Electricity Regulations which will help the country transition away from fossil fuels. The goal of these regulations is to allow energy to remain affordable while ensuring that the grid is reliable. Currently, Canada has an established clean power industry that outcompetes the U.S. and the European Union. However, Canada faces the risk of losing its key advantage in the transition towards a more sustainable society.
This June, Canada’s Energy Regulator declared a list of net zero scenarios that Canada could reach by 2035. Canada is already doing significantly better than competing countries. The grid is currently 84 percent non-emitting, while America’s grid is 40 percent non-emitting. Certain industries such as the Canadian steel industry are also in support of measures to increase clean energy production.
According to the federal government, consumers are expected to benefit from a transition to clean energy as well. One of these benefits includes reduced energy costs, which is due to efficient technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps while reducing the volatility in fossil fuel prices. However, Canada is going to require more electricity as consumers plug their cars, homes, and factories into the grid. Ontario recently offered up six new contracts for natural gas-fired power in order to deal with its increasing energy needs.
Creating a clean electricity infrastructure will help achieve a sustainable future for Canada. Not only are there environmental benefits, but consumers may gain financially as well. Our Anorra Turbines and Towers are the perfect solutions for rural homeowners, cottage owners, or tiny homeowners to reduce their dependency on the grid while also reducing their carbon footprints and energy costs.
